Adjunct Chemistry Faculty

Indian River State College is seeking passionate and student-centered educators to join our team as Adjunct Chemistry Faculty. In this role, you'll help shape the next generation of learners by creating engaging, real-world learning experiences in lecture and laboratory settings.

As an adjunct instructor, you'll teach courses such as Introduction to Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry, guiding students through both foundational concepts and hands-on laboratory work. You'll play an important role in supporting student success—fostering curiosity, encouraging critical thinking, and helping students persist toward their academic goals.

We're looking for educators who bring both subject-matter expertise and a commitment to inclusive, engaging teaching. You'll have the opportunity to incorporate innovative instructional technologies, connect chemistry concepts to everyday life, and collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and student success initiatives.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

• Master's degree (M.S.) in Chemistry, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Chemistry required. Additional graduate work in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physics, or a related area preferred;
• Proven knowledge of and preference for experience in teaching Introduction to Chemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and the associated laboratories;
• Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written;
• Ability to work with and teach to diverse populations is essential;
• Ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies is essential;
• Ability to develop and/or implement strategies to support students' retention, persistence, and program completion is essential;
• Ability to use data and assessment tools in the evaluation and improvement of instruction;
• Ability to engage students as active partners in the teaching/learning process;
• Ability to relate the concepts of chemistry to real life situations and applications;
• Computer literacy and experience using technology in the learning environment is essential;
• Experience teaching in an online environment preferred;
• An understanding of learning styles is preferred; willingness to learn is essential;
• Appropriate credentialing requirements to meet all current and future accreditation requirements;
• Experience teaching at a two-year post-secondary institution preferred

Physical Demands:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
